- In a game where the visitors played to disrupt the hosts rather than showcase their skills, three Celtic players had to go off for treatment to injuries. Twice Celtic took the lead through Johnny Crum and Jimmy Delaney and twice Motherwell equalised through Willie Stewart, but when Celtic took the lead for the third time through Delaney the visitors had no response.
- The Scottish League leaders all won on Saturday, Celtic, Aberdeen, and Rangers with home wins, while Hearts registered their seventh successive League win away at Coatbridge.

MOTHERWELL ERRORS
CELTIC WELL ON TOP AT PARKHEAD
Right from the start of the match at Celtic Park, Motherwell went out to play spoiling football, and gave little indication of the type of polished material for which they were recently famous.
Their half-backs were very crude in their methods. Celts scored first through Crum, the visitors protesting strongly that Crum was offside, and Stewart equalised within four minutes. Kennaway allowing the ball to slip past him low down at the post. Play became a bit tough, and Celts were in the wars. Kennaway, Hogg, Morrison, Carruth and Delaney were all injured. Hogg, Morrison, and Delaney were off the field for a spell. Delaney was eventually taken into the pavilion, a broken arm being feared, but the trouble was diagnosed as a torn arm muscle. The winger resumed just on the interval, obviously unfit. The first half had been almost devoid of good football.
The champions started the second half in hurricane fashion, and Delaney came very near on two occasions before he seized on a beautifully placed free kick by Lyon to head cleverly passed McArthur. Motherwell went right out of the running now, and fortune smiled on McArthur on several occasions. McGrory, Murphy, and Crum all hit wood, while Lyon and Delaney both had great shots which just got over. Then McKenzie tackled Crum illegally, and from Lyon's free kick, Delaney shot a low ball past McArthur from 25 yards.
As an attack, the Lanarkshire forwards had almost completely failed to function, only spasmodic bursts by Stewart being noticeable. McFadyen was out of his depth as support to Ferguson and Stevenson was seldom seen. The visitors’ goalkeeper and the full backs were good, but owing to the tactics of the half-backs the defence was eventually overrun. Celts, with the exception of Murphy, were very confident and strong. Morrison and Lyon were prominent in the rear, while Delaney, Carruth, and Crum were, the best forwards.
