CELTIC FALL HEAVILY
MOTHEWELL’S 8-0 WIN AT FIR PARK
In the closing Scottish League game for the season at Fir Park, Motherwell, last night, Motherwell inflicted a severe defeat on Celtic – by eight goals to nil.
Both teams opened promisingly, Motherwell being the more likely lot. Time and again danger threatened Kennaway’s charge through the fast raiding of Ogilvie and McCulloch.
Ogilvie put Motherwell ahead in nine minutes when he cleverly headed past Kennaway from an accurately placed corner by McCulloch.
Four minutes later Stevenson added a second goal from a cross by Ogilvie. Kennaway blocked his first try, but recovering possession quickly, Stevenson scored before the goalkeeper could regain position.
Stewart added a third in 21 minutes, Meeting a cross from Ogilvie first time, he fired in a shot that gave Kennaway no chance.
DOMINANT MOTHERWELL
Motherwell were the dominant side now, and, after repelling a number of dangerous raids, Kennaway had to admit defeat again when Stewart scored in 27 minutes.
An old injury having reasserted itself shortly after this goal, Kennaway had to retire, and Buchan took over the goalkeeper’s duties.
Celtic fought back pluckily, but could make little impression on the resolute Motherwell defence.
Nineteen minutes after the interval Stewart, after a brilliant run, beat Buchan to register his “hat-trick.” Two minutes later he scored again.
Twelve minutes from time, Stewart, with a strong shot added a seventh goal.
With seven minutes to go, Stewart completed his double “hat-trick” with a shot from 25 yards.
