KEEN GAME AT HAMILTON

CELTIC'S SECOND HALF SUPERIORITY

McGRORY IMPRESSES

A crowd of a little over 10,000 attended at Douglas Park, Hamilton, last night, and stood, throughout torrential rain to watch Hamilton Academicals and Celtic contest a game full of fast, and thrilling, incidents.

Despite the prevailing weather and underfoot conditions, the crowd were indeed, rewarded, for they were treated to delightful football from both sides. Celtic were worthy, winners on their second half display, although Hamilton Academicals were unfortunate not to obtain a division of the points, for their plucky first half display fully merited a draw.

In the first-half the home side for long spells was kept on the defensive but when the forwards got going the Celtic, defence proved none too impressive. Harrison and McNee, a delightful left wing, were ever dangerous with their interchanging of positions and clever shots. McGrory was a star in the Celtic front line with Delaney also outstanding. The centre-forward's fine distributive work kept his colleagues on the move, Summers the home pivot being slow to assert himself and to cover up.

In fifteen, minutes McGrory gave Celtic the lead from a pass by Delaney. Play then became keen, and in 22 minutes Hamilton equalised through Wilson, who headed home a perfect cross from McNee. A ding-dong struggle ensued, and in 30 minutes Murphy restored Celtics lead walking the ball into an open goal, with the home defence spread-eagled. Despite further intensive pressure by the home forwards the Celtic defence held out until the interval.

Celtic were complete masters in the second half. Lyons and Hogg were prominent in breaking up occasional clever Hamilton raids, while the visiting forwards harassed the home defence continually. Morgan, Thomson, and Scott did heroic work in keeping the eager Celtic forwards at bay. Wilson was in the toils against Lyon and searching passes to his colleagues went astray, the latter being well covered by a, steady visiting half-back line.
