CELTIC ALMOST BEATEN
BUCHAN EQUALISES THREE MINUTES FROM END
QUEEN OF THE SOUTH'S FINE PERFORMANCE
After having most of the game, Celtic escaped defeat by the narrowest of margins, only a great goal by Buchan, after a brilliant solo effort, saving a point for Parkhead.
Queen of the South, although a goal down at the interval, never stopped trying, and early in the second half Hay led a great Dumfries revival, following up a long ball from Law, and sending it over Kennaway's head to equalise. A minute later Law first timed a beautiful cross from Latimer into the net to give the Palmerston team the lead.
These quick goals livened up the game, and play ranged from end to end. Celtic were unfortunate on two occasions when McGrory struck the crossbar with great shots but Queens' right half had a shot with Kennaway out of his charge, only to see the ball strike the crossbar.
In the first half Queen of the South owed a lot to their defence, which was very safe. All the wiles of McGrory could not lure Bruce out of position, and Mason, in goal, had a very good match.
PENALTY FOR CELTIC
Celtic’s first goal was the result of a penalty award for Crum being brought down when going through, and Buchan converted, although Mason got his hands to the ball. The visitors pressed on the resumption, but play was by no means thrilling until Hay equalised and Law shocked Celtic with his leading goal.
From then till the end play was very keen.
The highlight of a good hard game was Buchan's equaliser three minutes from the end.
Queen of the South had none better than Mason, Law, and Bruce, with Hay Savage, Burns and Oakes also playing well. For Celtic, Kennaway, Hogg, Lyon, and Crum were, with Buchan, outstanding.
