CELTIC NOT STRETCHED
Celtic won just as easily as the score indicates. St Mirren's early goal in the first half put a false complexion on the game. They made a good fight of it in the first, half and succeeded in preventing Celtic from overrunning them, but they never really looked to have a winning chance.
Just as a Celtic score was expected, Young slipped a long ball up the middle and McKenzie fastened on, and outwitting Hogg in smart fashion he gave Kennaway no chance.
Celtic were somewhat disconcerted at this early setback, but weathered the storm. It was Murphy who paved the way for Celtic's first counter. He swung over a neat tall and Crum connected and tried a shot, which rebounded to MacDonald, who fastened on and made no mistake with a strong rising shot, which had McCloy completely deceived.
Just on half-time Delaney was tearing through on his own when Craven brought him down, and there was no injustice about the resulting penalty kick which MacDonald converted. On the resumption Celtic quickly settled and MacDonald, Crum, and Divers scored.
The attendance was 16,000.
