RANGERS' RALLIES OF NO AVAIL AT Parkhead
Celtic, continued their winning way at the expense of their oldest and greatest rivals, Rangers. They were value their victory, and the score by no means exaggerates their superiority.
Rangers were not in the same class as Celtic on Saturday's showing, and only at one period of the game did they-look like making a fight of it. This was after the interval, when they had. reduced the deficit to one goal and looked like drawing level. Delaney, however, added a further goal for Celtic and it was all over. The highlight of the game was McDonald's three goals. This lad has come back to his game at the right time. His goals, the first fifth and sixth were all of the type that revealed the football master. The real difference between the two teams lay at half-back, where the victors were much superior. Lyon was an inspiration, and in Geatons and Paterson they had forcing players of the highest class. The inexperience of Woodburn was a big factor, the youngster finding the occasion too much for him.
Celtic turned, round at the interval with a three-goal lead. McDonald drove home after Crum and Murphy had shots blocked. The second goal was the outcome of a rash action by Woodburn, and Lyon drove the free-kick home with Dawson unsighted. Woodburn seemed to have lost the place hereabouts, and a stupid foul on Delaney meant a penalty goal to Celtic, Lyon converting.
Starting the second half three down, Rangers scored through Smith and Thornton and the game became a desperate battle. Rangers now produced, some really good football; but when Delaney scored for Celtic they threw in the towel.
McDonald scored two good goals before the finish, to bring the total to six and put the finishing touch to Rangers' discomfiture.
On this form Celtic would, seem to be well on the way to further triumph's, while Rangers have some serious problems.
The attendance was 80,000.

And it was Delaney, the man of the match, who revitalised the Celtic-attack when, with the speed of a deer and the heart of a lion, he raced into the centre to meet a cross from Crum. With a mighty effort he hurled himself forward and headed the ball into the net, while Dawson could only stand and stare, so thunderstruck was he by the unexpectedness of the action.
