Trivia

  • No match report for one half of the Old-Firm in the Glasgow Herald and even in the brief mention they get in the Round-Up the author manages to laud their main rivals–who are given their obligatory match report. The only player of note for Celtic according to the Herald was debutant John Gould.
  • Hitler and his deputy Rudolf Hess attended the funerals on Saturday of victims of the Munich bomb explosion that had targeted Hitler. Hess gave a speech in honour of the victims saying "The instigators of this crime have taught the German people how to hate…You wanted to take our Fuhrer, but you have strengthened our faith."

CELTIC AT LAST WIN A POINT

LATE CRUMB OF COMFORT
Celtic by the skin of their teeth, broke their unhappy run of defeat by winning a point at Greenock in the Western section of the Scottish League.

With a few minutes to go Calder scored for Morton, and when the game seemed all over bar the shouting Carruth snatched the equaliser for Celtic. Gould of Arbroath at outside-right added much-needed colour to the Celtic attack.

Ayr United are now the only club in the section without a point, a situation which they were most unfortunate not to have remedied at Hampden Park, as our report of the match indicates.

Rangers remain at the top of the table, still to lose a point and still to concede a goal – a splendid record.
