WEEK-END FOOTBALL FEATURES
As our correspondent, in his review of Scottish League football of the weekend hinted would happen, Rangers on Saturday suffered their first defeat of the war-time season – and incidentally, failed to score for the first time in 10 successive matches.
And as Rangers were losing their proud record at Hamilton, Celtic, so long in the toils, – were regaining the limelight at Dumbarton with a return to something like their former brilliance.
If any there be, then; who thought the Ne’erday battle of the – “Old Firm” a foregone conclusion in Rangers’ favour, their views will be considerably upset.
The strain is off the Champions now, however, and they quickly returned to winning form by disposing of Queen’s Park in the long-delayed Glasgow Cup final yesterday.
A GREAT GOAL
But Celtic on Saturday’s showing will provide the usual stout opposition on January 1. The forwards at last struck a penetrative game and will have gained the all-important asset of confidence.
McDonald the Celtic inside-right, scored what may be the goal of the season after beating five Dumbarton defenders.
