The Scotsman, 26 February, 1940
East Fife, Cup winners two years ago, met Clyde, the Scottish Cupholders, and were quite outplayed although only beaten by a margin provided by two penalty goals.
Raith Rovers made a better fight of it against Celtic at Parkhead, and, although they, too went down by two goals, they did well enough to suggest that they have a chance of making up the leeway in the return match.
