Trivia
- Celtic & World War Two
- Celtic were supposedly suspended from being allowed to play any games against sides from Glasgow for a month but this got by as it was a “Glasgow Cup” game!
- SFA had closed Celtic Park for a month until October 18 after crowd disorder at Ibrox. Celtic not allowed to play at any other ground in Glasgow until that date.
Review
A game which seemed to break Celtic’s suspension of not being allowed to play against another Glasgow team until October 18, but it was allowed because it was a Glasgow Cup game and not a “Scottish” one.
Only 15,000 allowed, and Celtic made up the majority, counting “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. 7 ,8” whenever goalkeeper Dawson touched the ball to remind them of their hammering from Hibs, and Rangers fans shouting about the referee’s initials (RC)!
Referee awarded four penalties 3 to Celtic and 1 to Rangers but Malky MacDonald and Bobby Hogg missed, and Rangers squeezed home 3-2
