Trivia

  • Celtic & World War Two
  • Monday December 8 – Britain wakes up to the news that the Japanese have bombed Pearl Harbour. The US are now in the Pacific War, and a day later Hitler declares war on them as well. So Britain now has a huge ally in the West, as well as the Soviet Union in the East. Churchill delighted, but on December 10, the Japanese sank British ships, the HMS Hood and HMS Repulse. Now definitely a world war.
  • December 17 – A silly dispute between Celtic and goalkeeper George Johnstone about wages comes to a head today when Celtic are fined £25 by the SFA for breach of agreement. This seems to be a victory for Johnstone, but he makes his feelings known about it, not once but twice to the SFA and is suspended sine die!
