  • At this time there was a deal of press speculation that Leeds Utd. were set to make a bid of £20,000 to take Bobby Evans and Charlie Tully to Elland Road.

Review

This game was a triumph for Charlie Tully. On 10 minutes Willie Miller made his only mistake of the match dropping a cross at the feet of Findlay for an easy tap home. On 39 minutes Tully left half of the Rangers defenders trailing in his wake before gesticulating to Johnny Paton where the pass was headed and served the ball up to him perfectly. When Young had to go for the Celtic winger the ball was slipped to John Gallacher who had an easy task to shoot the ball home. 1-1 with it all to play for.
One minute from half time, after Thornton had hit the post for Rangers, Celtic produced a superb goal. Evans swerved a mazy run through Rangers and slipped the ball to Tully, and when his headed pass continued the move Willie Gallacher was in the centre forward position to score. The final goal twenty minutes from the end led to heated Rangers protests. There may have been some justification in their protest that Brown was impeded by John Gallacher before Jock Weir shot home.

His artistry was almost tantalising, though that did not excuse several of the lunges made at him. His temperament was ideal too, for he accepted the free kicks in his favour and made no attempt to gain personal redress other than by continuing to baffle his adversaries.”
