Trivia
- Chic Cairney made his debut in the game. Cairney was largely used as an understudy for Bobby Evans and duly stepped in for this game. He had previously had a decent game in the Friendly against Brentford. This was Chic’s only first team game for Celtic. Tully was still ‘injured’ / dropped by Kelly for his part in the incidents at the last two Rangers games.
Review
A largely changed team contested this, the first game in the season against a newly promoted Raith Rovers side. Bobby Evans was absent playing for Scotland against Ireland in Belfast, a game the Scots game out 8-2 winners. Alec Boden moved from Right Half to Right Back to cover for McGuire; Chic Cairney came in on his debut game to replace Boden at Right Half; Joe Baillie moved up to Left Half to accommodate Jimmy Mallan back at Left Back with John McGrory coming back in at Centre Half. Leslie Johnston came back in at Inside Right and with Tully out Bill Rennet came in.
