- On the 28th, the day before this game, Celtic sold Leslie Johnston to Stoke City for £9000. Johnston, signed from Clyde to combat a lack of Celtic goals, had played predominantly one outsde from hisa favoured centre-forward position. After an initially successful period he had run up against a goal famine and with the signing of Mike Haughney he was deemed surplus to requirements.
