Scottish Cup Final
- Celtic win their 16th Scottish Cup thanks to a goal from John McPhail.
- Celtic’s first major senior trophy since the 1937/38 league title.
- This was the third time Celtic had met Motherwell in a cup final and the third time Celtic had beaten them.
- Jack McAlindon made way for John McPhail at centre forward.
- When the squad toured America that summer, John McPhail paraded the cup before each match.
Review
There have been many better Cup Finals than this one but few better goals than the one from John McPhail which gave Celtic the trophy for the 16th time.
Hunter made a miracle save midway through the second half from a Humphries half volley that was headed for the top corner.
