- Mallan was out injured. It was found that in the previous Morton game, during which he had not performed well, he had broken hios ankle. He was replaced by Alec Boden; McPhail was again fit and replaced Giles Heron.
- Repercussions of the disturbances at the Morton League Cup game were still being felt and policing at Fir Park was heavy.
- Again the supporters were accused of causing a disturbance at the game and the police waded in to the east terracing to make arrests. A number were charged with breach of the peace and disorderly conduct.
Review
A late goal for the Celts split the points bertween the sides. Bertie Peacock pulled the team back into it in the second half with his distribution, and Baillie made a tremendous contribution.
Jimmy Mallan's ankle break proved to be a serious injury. He was never the same player again and in fact only played one further time for the senior team before his release in April 1953.
