Trivia
- Bobby Collins had recovered from his injury and Jackie Millsop lost his place; Mallan and Boden again switched.
- Rangers had made it clear in the pre-match press that foul language, banners and 'party' tune singing would not be tolerated. There was a good degree of tension given various events at other grounds already this season.
Review
Collins goal was the most memorable feature of a satisfying match.
It was the more remarkable in that it was scored when Celtic had only 10 players on the field, McPhail having gone off with a nasty cut above the eye in the 18th minute and needed 4 stitches.
