Trivia
- Considering the trouble that there had been in the league Cup game earlier in the season this was made an all-ticket game. This was a mid-week game with a 5pm kick off.
- John Bonnar had grabbed the goaleeper's jersey back; McPhail was still out; Walsh was out injured; Jock Weir made his first appearance of the season at centre forward in an attempt to find a replacement for that position; Jackie Millsopp came in as outside right with Bobby Collins moving in one.
- Tully and Peacock played for Northern Ireland at Windsor Park on 6th October in a 0-3 loss to Scotland.. Bobby Evans played for Scotland.
Review
All in all a bit of a make-shift team. Celtic had still failed to address the need for a centre forward and McPhail was taking longer and longer each time to recover full fitness.

Described as "… a rather poor game" with Celtic's half backs dominant. Celtic failed to take their chances and should have been three ahead by half time. The only goal came from a loose ball down the middle which Thom should have dealt with but unaccountably left Weir pounced on it and fired away an unstoppable shot. Two Morton goal line clearances followed with the Morton defence looking decidedly shaky. Only once in the first half was Bonnar troubled by a shot. He had to work harder in the second half and was at full stretch to push an Alexander shot away and a Linwood shot was deflected around the post.
Evans was the best player throughout the game and Baillie marked Orr out of the game. With Alec Boden controlling Linwood the Morton forwards never got going. However, the Celtic reorganised forward line also never really got going, and although they often played clever football, they lacked the essential punch to take the game on and win it convincingly.
