Review
A game which Celtic pulled out of the fire – had Hearts taken all their chances it would have ended in a much heavier defeat.
Walsh and Collins got the Celts going and Walsh was unlucky not to score early on. Collins caused the hearts Defence all kinds of problems. hearts too missd golden chances after good interplay between bauld and Rutherford. Evans and Baillie were denying most of the Hearts attacking moves. A breakaway started from a long Rutherford pass should have ended in a goal but Wardhaugh's header hit the crossbar. As the game progressed Hearts got more and more into it though Collins and Walsh were still dangerous and threatening the Hearts goal. End to end stuff with attacking and defending switching from side to side. In the second half Tully missed a sitter with an open goal in front of him. Three minutes in Rollo punched out a goal bound corner and from the resulting penalty Parker scored. If Evans and Baillie were holding the Celtic defence together then Glidden at centre half was doing the same for Hearts and he broke up Celtic move after Celtic move. The second goal from a Whittle shot was signalled by the linesman. Rollo hooked the ball away from behind the line but was spotted and the goal given. In the final 10 minutes Celtic were awarded a penalty when Peacock was held by Parker, Collins putting the penalty away.
Bonnar and Rollo had made a considerable improvement to the defence. It remained to sort out the centre forward position.
