Trivia

  • Celtic continued with the experiment started with the Glasgow Derby, the previous game, and Rollo and Fallon were kept in the attack
  • Over 30 Celtic supporters were injured in two separate supporters bus crashes on their way to the game.
  • Aberdeen were without a win so far in the season, and Celtic were fresh from the win over Rangers. A hard closely contested game was expected.
  • Alec Boden and Charlie Tully both had long round trips to make the game having been selected for the Scottish League against the Welsh League in Cardiff on the 24th. Boden played whilst Tully was a travelling reserve.

In an interesting aside the Celtic reserves also played an East of Scotland Juniors Select that afternoon. The side was the following – linked players obviously going on to a full team game. Bell; Haughney, Duffy; Hipsley, Jack, Maxwell; Higgins, Weir, McDonald, Docherty, Clifford. Their coach was George Paterson, former left half and Scottish internationalist.

Review

Aberdeen opened the scoring in the 3rd minute when Hather went on a run down the left wing and his cross beat Evans, Boden and Stein, was deflected on by Baillie and Boyd had a simple tap in to an empty net. Tully yet again was the manipulator behind the Celtic attacks and Evans was the orchestrator from midfield. Aberdeen scored the second from a breakaway move and cross which Hamilton headed home. On 39 minutes Peacock pulled one back fro Celtic with a shot from 25 yards which beat the keeper. At half tiome it stood neatly poised at 2-1 to Aberdeen.
In the second half Bonnar was hurt and had to leave the field. Rollo continued in goal with Bonnar coming on as an outfield player at outside right. After 8 m inutes Bonnar was sufficiently recovered to resume his goal minding duties and Rollo reverted to outside right and immediately almost had the ball in the net, the ball coming back off the underside of the crossbar. In the ensuing discussions on whether the ball had crossed the line Tully was booked for dissent. Fallon got the equaliser. A cross from Baillie was punched clear by the Aberdeen goalkeeper and Fallon volleyed it home.

So with 4 games played Celtic stood 3rd in the table behine East Fife and St Mirren
