Trivia
- On 3rd November an attempted break in to Charlie Tully's pub at the junction of Florence Street and Cumberland Street in the Gorbals was reported in the newspapers. Thieves broke into the neighbouring close cellar and attempted to break through the adjoining wall. It appears they ran out of enthusiasm for the task.
- John McDonald, who had recently made his first team debut, was transferred on loan to Kilmarnock.
- On this day Davie Russell, former Celtic centre half, died at his home in Croftfoot Drive, Fauldhouse. He was 82 years old.
- Peacock and Tully left after this game to join up with the Ireland team in Paris. Tully got Ireland's goal in a 3-1 loss.
- Jimmy Duncan's appearance at outside right lasted just one game and he was replaced by Jimmy Walsh who had recovered from 'flu; Jim Lafferty was given another start as centre forward following strong showings with the Reserves. McPhail had taken a knock in the previous game and was out.
- This was Jim Lafferty's last first team game for Celtic. He reverted to the reserves for the rest of the season and was released on a freer in April 1953, going on to join Lincoln City.
Review
A strong return of the Celtic spirit. This win saw Celtic move to second in the table and it really looked like a strong challenge was on for the League title this season. Not one player buckled and everyone pushed for the win.
As usual Celtic started with fire in their bellies with shots and corners peppering the Thirds goal. Celtic scored through Peacock in the 14th minute, an individual goal, but this was quickly equalised by Cuthbertson from the restart. Dick gave the advantage to Thirds in the 32nd minute when he shot through a goalmouth melee and they could have gone further ahead. The half finished Celtic 1-2 Third Lanark.
With all to play for in the second half Lafferty put Celtic level on 50 minutes with his shot rebounding back off of him and into the net from the keeeper's initial parry. Yet again Thirds found a goal to make it 2-3 followed two minutes later by Dick's second to make it 2-4. Celtic failed to buckle however. And Walsh produced a stunning shot to pull it back to 3-4 and the equaliser came for an own goal when Forsyth deflected a centre from Peacock past his keeper. With less than a minute left Tully got the winner from a Walsh corner.
