Trivia
- First Round of the Cup against amateurs Eyemouth was hardly the place to see changes – but changes to the Celtic team were needed having lost their last 4 games and as such dropped out of any chance at the league title. This was an all ticket game with the game limited to a maximum of 5,500 spectators. 1700 tickets were sent to Glasgow for distribution through the ticket office.
- Eyemouth's ground, Houndlaw Park, stood on a hill overlooking the town. The pitch itself had a definite slope. They had there very own ace in centre forward Johnny Scott who had scored 28 goals in 24 games this season.
- George Hunter was dropped and John Bonnar restored to goalkeeping duties. The full back line changed with Meechan switching to the right and Alex Rollo coming in as left back; Collins and Peacock were restored to their usual positions.
- John McPhail, Celtic centre forward had a formal meeting with his creditors who had sequestrated his estates. McPhail had declared himself bankrupt. His main creditors were Yiounger's Brewery who were looking for £3000 for liquor supplied to his public house.
- The Eyemouth goalkeeper, 18 year old Alex Patterson had an excellent game despite shipping four goals and was cheered off the field at the end of the game by the Celtic support. He later went on to join Newcastle United.
- John McGrory the hero with all four goals scored.
Review
A game played in heavy continuous rain. Two goals up within 12 minutes. All the players bar McGrory, who was out to prove that he could be the new centre forward, eased up through the game. McGrory took all his goals well and played with speed and good positioning. Patterson, the Eyemouth goalkeeper was a very promising 17 year old, despite shipping four goals.
