Trivia
- This was the semi-final of the Charities Cup played at Celtic Park. The other semi final was between Queen's Park and Rangers. Queens Park had drawn 2-2 with Partick Thistle at Firhill and won on the toss of a coin. Rangers had received a bye to the semi as had Third Lanark.
- Third Lanark had just been relegated (along with Motherwell) having come bottom of the League.
Review
Collins and Whyte both had chances in the opening ten minutes. Third Lanark were under continual pressure. Both Thirds full backs had to be on best defensive duties and Robertson pulled off some excellent saves. After 20 minutes Third Lanark had an attack which Bonnar dealt with. Stein was a rock at the heart of the Celtic defence. Tully switched to inside left for a period. When Thirds finally did attack they won a corner which, though it beat Bonnar, was cleared off the line by Rollo. At half time it was still scoreless.
Celtic got a penaly when White handled in the area however Collins missed, shooting wide. Celtic continued their relentless attack and Thirds continued to defend resolutely. For Thirds, Dobbie and Liddell changed places and this led to their goal when they forced an error from Bonnar and Liddell cracked the shot off the underside of the bar. Celtic equalised two minutes later when Fernie headed in a Collins corner. Despite efforts from both sides it was still 1-1 at full time and Celtic won the toss to go through to the final.
