Trivia

  • This was the weekend of the First Round of the Scottish Cup and Celtic and Dundee had drawn byes. Celtic had spent the week training at Turnberry.
  • Celtic had been also due to travel to Leeds to play another Floodlit Friendly on the 2nd February. The game was called off when bitter weather, snow and frost gripped north and south of the border and the pitch at Elland Road was unplayable.
  • Tully was back and fit. To accommodate him out on the left wing, Mochan moved to centre forward and McPhail dropped out; Stein was not fir and McIlroy came in for him.

Review

Merchant got the first goal for Dundee when he beat McIlroy and outpaced Meechan then cut the ball around the advancing Bonnar. Walsh got an equaliser a minute later. Collins took Celtic into the lead when his shot was saved dbut the goalkeeper dropped the ball and it trundled over the line. Dundee had more chances than Celtic in the remainder of the half. mercchant shot past and Hill hit the bar. Celtic substituted Higgins for Evans in the second half – Evans went off limping. Fernie went to the half back position and Collins moved one inside.
