Trivia

  • Stein played despite having a poisoned toe. McPhail came in and Walsh dropped out injured.
  • This was an all-ticket game with the police setting the crowd limit at 22,000.

Review

Accies had two good chances right at the start but failed to capitalise. The crowd was pressed so tight behind the Hamilton goal that the barriers gave way and there was a short delay whilst the crowd that spilled onto the track were cleared by police and ambulance men. The first goal came from a Haughney penalty when Fernie was brought down. Since taking over penalty duties from Bobby Collins, Haughney had yet to miss. After a brief period of ascendancy following the penalty the game settled into an end-for-end game with Higgins and Mochan having attempts at one end and Todd and Stott at the other. After half an hour McPhail was limping and Mochan went to centre forward.
