Trivia
- Bonnar had recovered from the broken bone in his hand and was back in goal; Mike Haughney was away playing for the Scottish league against the Irish league in Dublin – Alec Boden came in; Stein had succumbed to the poisoned toe he had been playing through, McIlroy took his place. McPhail (groin injury) and Walsh were both injured allowing Sean Fallon to make a start at centre forward, and finally Tully was out injured allowing Bobby Collins back into the team.
- Return to the first team for Jim McIlory, his first game since a triple fracture of the leg. It almost turned into a disaster for him when he almost conceded an own goal, but thankfully for him it was recovered by his colleague
Review
Airdrie’s only scoring chance came in the first minute of the game when a terrific shot from Cross was headed off the line by Boden who knocked himself out clearing the ball. After that it was constant Celtic pressure against a young and inexperienced Airdrie team.
Aberdeen fell off the pace when they were beaten at home by Falkirk and Hearts had an away win against Hamilton Accies.
