- This was the weekend of the Scottish Cup semi final between Aberdeen and Rangers (Aberdeen defeating a supine and mediocre Rangers 6-0). The other teams in League Division A had a free weekend and Celtic decided to play a Friendly with Kilmarnock who were challenging (and had just lost top of the league) to Motherwell who were promoted. This game was originally fixed to be played at Rugby Park but was switched because the Kilmarnock ground was in use for the amateur international between Scotland and Ireland.
