Trivia
- Having duly failed to qualify for the later stages of the League Cup, and the Glasgow Cup stalled at stalemate, the season began properly with this away tie to Clyde. The tinkering continued; back in came Frank Meechan at left back despite having a poor game in the Glasgow Cup replay two nights before, John Higgins at outside right; Willie Fernie transferred over to inside left from inside right with Tully apparently dropped and Jimmy Walsh came in as outside right. The big surprise though was playing Alec Boden at inside right and the apparent dropping of Tully (who did appear in the stand along with John McPhail to watch the game).
- Clyde had recently signed Laing from Hearts.
- Following this game, on the Sunday Celtic took the boat across to Belfast to play Cliftonville in a Friendly on the Monday evening.
Review
A pretty dull first half saw Wilson the busier of the keepers without really troubling the Clyde man. Four minutes before half time Celtic scrambled a goal which was credited to Fernie.
Both sides continued with inaccurate shooting and passing in the second half. It was a fortuitous knock from the hand of Bonnar which forced the ball into the net from a tentative Ring cross-come-shot which gave Clyde an equaliser. Walsh got a second for Celtic which was matched four minutes from time by Hill.
A pretty turgid and lack-lustre game.
all observers seemed to agree that Alec Boden was much better at preventing goals than helping score them.
