- Celtic had undertaken to play Cliftonville in this Friendly sometime during the previous season. The game was played to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the foundation of Cliftonville, the oldest amateur club in Ireland. The committment to the Friendly certainly complicated other fixture arrangements following two drawn ties in the Glasgow Cup and this Monday might have been used for a replay of the Partick Thistle game.
- Back in Glasgow the big news was the suspension of Rangers centre half Willie Woodburn who had been sent off for retaliation on august 28th against Stirling Albion. The Referees Committee of the SFA suspended him for an unlimited amount of time as it was his fourth suspension.
- Evans, Fernie and Tully did not play. Evans and Fernie along with Haughney would join up with the Scottish League party training in Ireland and Tully ws believed to be injured.
Review
Celtic started playing exhibition football but were soon jolted out of that by the lively tackling of the home side, who were reinforced by several players from the Dublin side Bohemians.
McCleary collided with Fallon and had to leave the field for stitches, returning after ten minutes with a water-polo cap on.
