Trivia
- A floodlit game with a 19:30 kick off time played at Shawfield Stadium. This was to play for something called the 'Championship of the East End'. What appears to have been a Friendly to showcase the floodlit game seems to have been taken very seriously by both sides, with them fielding full strength teams. This was the first floodlit game between two A Division sides played in the Glasgow area.
- Celtic took the opportunity to try out the new part-time signing of Richard Beattie from Duntocher Hibs.
Review
A win moulded on the skill of Celtic's halfbacks and inside forwards. First blood went to Tommy Ring with a rocket which rebounded from the Celtic crossbar. Celtic settled and Tully and Fernie started to make runs and gaps into the Clyde defense. On twelve minutes Tully set up Higgins and the outside forward wasted no time in despatching the ball. Clyde were level within the minute when Buchanan swung over a high ball and Beattie failed to deal with it. On thirty minutes one of Tully's weaving runs saw him deposited on the turf by Granville. Haughney scored from the spot. Clyde 1-2 Celtic at half time.
The second hgalf pretty much carried on in the same vein as the first with lots of Celtic pressure. Fernie picked up an injury and had to leave the field allowing Clyde to make use of the extra man. Ring's equaliser elen minutes from time looked as though the game would go to a draw, however Jimmy Walsh popped up to score a last minute goal.
Despite letting in the goal Beattie (listed as 'Newman') was considered to have had a good game and was thought to be a future asset to Celtic. The goal he lost was to controllin a high ball which was to become one of his weak points for some time.
