Trivia
- An unchanged team from the Cup game for Celtic. The match was an all-ticket game. Snow fell again in Scotland the night before the game. The game was playable but the ground was pretty well frozen and sand sprinkled liberally on the surface. This made for slippery conditions underfoot.
- The draw for the next round of the cup was made and Celtic drew Kilmarnock away.
- Jimmy Walsh played for the Scotland U23 team against the England U23 team at Shawfield on the 8th February in a 6-0 defeat. This was despite being older than 23 but qualifying based on the cut off date applied.
- John McAlindon was back from doing his National Service (some of which was spent in the Middel East) and was again plying his trade with the Reserves.
Review
Celtic had most of the play at Brockville but they lacked cohesion and in particular the forwards played without being a unit. In the first half Fernie gave Celtic the lead after good work from Evans and Walsh, beating the goalkeeper from 10 yards. Mochan and Fernie constantly swapped positions on the left hand side. Falkirk had their chances and Parker missed a penalty in the first half when Bonnar pushed Davidson out of the way at a corner. Falkirk rearranged their forward line for the second half though the Celtic half backs generally still had the measure of them. Fernie picked up a facial injury in the second half but was able to carry on. Fernie might have scored just before the end but Parker got back to fire off the line. It looked to be all over in the second half but Morrison popped up just before the end to give the Bairns a share of the points.
Aberdeen continued to pull ahead. They beat Partick Thistle at Pittodrie 4-0 and even at this early stage they looked like sure fire contenders for the title.
