- This was a Scottish Cup Replay after the teams drew 1-1 at Rugby Parkthe previous Saturday. An unchanged team for Celtic. For Kilmarnock, Baillie came in for Collins, who was out with an ankle injury, at right back. The kick off was at 3 pm on the Wednesday afternoon. The ground was lightly sanded and the match played in sunshine though still winter in the air. An orange ball was used for the game.
- The draw had been made for the next round of the Cup prior to the game kicking off. The winners would face Hamilton Academicals at home.
- Willie Fernie played in the Scotland A v Scotland B game played at Easter Road on Monday the 21st. Fernie played for Scotland B and was the only Celtic player in the two sides.
- A match between the Celtic Old Boys XI versus Belfast Celtic Old Boys XI was announced for charity in Belfast for April. The Celtic Old Boys team, including Malcolm MacDonald, the manager of Kilmarnock, would be Wallace('32-'34); Hogg('31-'48), Morrison('29-'40); Lynch('35-'48), MacDonald('32-'45), Paterson('39-'46, '52-'53); Crum ('32-'42), Carruth ('36-'45), Connor ('32-'34), Divers ('32-'45), Murphy ('32-'45).
Review
Celtic just about deserved their win due to a superior work rate.
An undistinguished game with Walsh scoring with one of the few viable shots of the game. Collins cutting in from the wing beat Brown with his shot and the ball rebounded off of the far post. Smith collected the rebound before the Kilmarnock defense could react and passed to Walsh for him to shoot home. Collins missed a sitter of a header before this and spent the rest of the game atoning for his miss by being the most effective forward for Celtic. Killie had only one real chance in the second half when Curlett gathered a rebound from his own free kick and forced Bonnar into conceding a corner from his second attempt. Evans and Peacock and Stein yet again controlled the Kilmarnock attacks but the passing from both sides was said to be atrocious.
