Trivia
- The Scottish Cup Final at Hampden Park in 1955. The match, between Glasgow football clubs Celtic and Clyde, was the first Scottish Cup final to be televised live and was played in front of a "disappointing" crowd of more than 106,000. The score was 1-1, and Clyde won the replay 1-0. The arrangement for the live television was that if 80% of the tickets for the game were sold a fortnight before the game, the the televised broadcast would go ahead as long as the BBC could come to a satisfactory financial agreement with the SFA. They also agreed to a telerecording which could be tramsitted after 9:00 pm on the day of the game.
- Willie Fernie was back in on the right with Walsh on the left. Neil Mochan missed out. No tickets were on sale at Hampden and all tickets had to be bought from either of the participating teams grounds or from the SFA headquarters in Carlton Place. Celtic were in the 'Home' dressing room at Hampden. If the game was decided there would be the presentation of the cup and there would be no round of the track with the cup for the winning team. The SFA expressly banned this.
Review
Celtic's game in everything but goals. Every Celtic player played well.
Celtic should have had the cup won before half an hour was up. In that period Clyde had their goal peppered and exposed on several occasions, particularly by the clever passing of McPhail and Tully, but only Walsh seemed prepared to shoot. Celtic went ahead when Fernie made a delightful pass through the centre and Walsh, intelligently anticipating the low true pass scored immaculately. They lost the chance to consolidate the lead when both McPhail and Walsh fauiled to make contact with Tully's pass when only three yards from goal. Robertson it was who, from a corner kick three minutes from time, drew the match. He was unwittingly assisted by Bonnar who misjudged his leap for the ball which dropped under the bar and was turned into the net by the goalkeeper.
