Review
Falkirk goalkeeper Slater was injured and Colville had to go into goal. This added to the general call for the authorities to allow substitution of at least the goalkeeper if injured during play. As it was Slater returned to the field at outside right with his arm inside his jumper and was clearly not fir to play.
Before the injury Celtic had opened the scoring in six minutes from a Collins shot, after Jimmy Walsh chased a long ball from either Neil Mochan or Bertie Peacock and fired in a low hard cross after keeping the ball in play. Slater was injured in that move. Collins got a second with a shot from the 18 yard line. Tully got the third with a well placed shot that beat Colville.
Three – nil up at half time one might have expected Celtic to pile on the pressure and play some expansive football. Instead they degenerated into a bunch of poor passing individualists. Ormond went into goal for the second half for Falkirk. Despite his arm / shoulder injury Slater prooved quite adept on the right wing and in goal Ormond fisted away a Mochan powerhouse shot. Celtic shot at goal regularly but mostly inaccurately. Mochan scored ten minutes from the end and Fernie five minutes later. Just before the end Morrison pulled one back for Falkirk.
