Trivia
- On the same day the League Cup Final between Aberdeen and St Mirren took place with Aberdeen winning 2-1.
- Willie Fernie had recovered from the knock he had picked up and came in at right wing half in place of Frank Whyte; a completely reconstructed forward line saw Jimmy Walsh restored to the centre forward position, Bobby Collins go to inside right to make room for John Higgins to step back in at outside right, with Tully remaining on the left with Eric Smith inside of him. Jim Sharkey and Matt McVittie lost out. Mochan continued at left back. Higgins had originally been declared unfit.
- Andrew Bell who had left Celtic at the start of the season and joined Airdrieoinians played his first first team game for them against Raith Rovers.
- The Celtic Reserves beat Clyde Reserves 3-1 at Celtic Park. The team was McCreadie; Goldie, Meechan; MacKay, Jack, Duffy; Docherty, McVittie, Sharkey, Ryan, Auld. The scorers were Sharkey, Docherty and Ryan.
- Elsewhere, Jimmy Mallan, ex-Celtic and now plying his trade with St Mirren, was granted a license for a public house at 47 Moss Street, Paisley. The address is now a timber merchants and DIY shop.
Review
Clyde began sharply and had the better of the opening exchanges. But Celtic gradually worked their way back into the game and started to get the upper hand. The first half was a little scrappy but Celtic fought for every ball and had the half backs with the ability to win and distribute and link up. Walsh and Smith up front tenaciously fought for openings and Tully and Collins turned on the style, Tully particularly in the second half. Both goalkeepers had good games being called on to make saves of a higher quality. Walsh's opening goal came from a bit of a goal mouth melee. Higgins scored in the second half after Clyde had equalised, from a Tully dummy which fooled the defense. Fernie scored from the penalty spot after Tully had been brought down in the area by Murphy.
