Trivia
- Matt McVittie dropped out after being somewhat overwhelmed by the Rangers in the Ne'erday game and Eric Smith came back in. Jimmy Walsh who would have been the normal replacement was out with a leg injury. The team travelled up on Friday night and stayed at a hotel in Stonehaven. Aberdeen fielded an unchanged side.
Review
Celtic survived a scramble in the tenth minute when Beattie failed to collect a back pass and Stein had to clear out from underneath the bar. The game was played at a leisurely pace with short and misplaced passes from both teams. After 25 minutes Celtic had yet to force Martin to make a save. The goal came on 41 minutes and it was Aberdeen that went into the lead when Leggat hit a rocket into the roof of the net. In the second half Aberdeen were content to hold on to their 1-0 lead and Celtic were wayward in front of goal. On seventy minutes Sharkey dribbled himself into the clear and around the keeper only to miss an open goal.
Two games with no goals for Celtic and the press were starting to label it a scoring crisis. The loss dropped Celtic down to fourth in the table with Rangers, Hearts and Hibs climbing above them.
