Trivia

  • Celtic had been due to play Falkirk at home on the 14th January but the ground was frozen solid on the morning of the match and the game was postponed. The east coast was less affected and Aberdeen beat Hibernian to knock Celtic down to fifth in the table.
  • John Higgins had further surgery on his knee. The original injury was from the previous season and surgery then had failed to cure the problem.
  • Boden came in at right half with Evans going to centre half to replace the rested Stein. Jimmy Walsh was again fit having recovered from a leg knock and replaced Eric Smith. Tully was again fully fit and had played several games for the reserves but had so far failed to be picked.
  • John Bonnar the Celtic reserve goalkeeper (he'd been displaced from the no. 1 spot by Dick Beattie this season) became a father for the third time with the birth of a daughter this week.
  • The ground was still frost hard but deemed to be good enough to play. Though the game was drawn Celtic actually rose one place in the league as Aberdeen's game with Partick Thistle was postponed.

Review

The state of the ground meant that play was not conducive to attractive football. Celtic scored first when Mochan crossed from near the corner flag and Sharkey applied the finishing touch. Raith equalised before half time when Fallon miskicked and though Beattie saved the first shot he allowed the ball to slip from his grasp and Copland finished with a tap in. In the second half Jimmy Walsh and Sharkey switched positions. Raith had a goal chalked off when the ball was kicked out of Beattie's hands and into the net.
