Trivia

  • The final Saturday of the season was the occasion for John Higgins to make a comeback from yet more convalescence from his successive knee injuries. Queen of the South came from being handed a 9-1 thrashing from Partick Thistle to whom Celtic had also just lost 2-0.
  • Including the Cup Final this was the fourth game in succession that Celtic had lost.

Review

Celtic scored in the first minute when Mochan crossed, Higgins headed back from the far post and Walsh swept the ball in. Queen of the South were soon level when Bonnar completely missed a cross and left Black with an easy tap in. As Queens continued to get chances the voices from the terraces started to be heard. Higgins had to leave the pitch briefly for treatment to a facial injury following a clash with the Queen of the South 'keeper. More defensive slackness from Celtic saw a second goal put past Bonnar with Rothera heading home. In the second half Celtic tried for the equaliser but the game was somehow petering out into a typical end of season affair. Evans picked up a head injury but was able to return. Before the end Rothera picked up a second goal from yet more defensive sloppiness. The small crowd let the directors and players know that they were far from happy.
