Review
Bonthrone scored for the visitors on three minutes when the Celtic defenders were caught off balance and were nearly caught again just after. Celtic fought back winning successive corners. A powerful Collins shot hit the upright and the rebound was collected by Fernie who scored. Both sides were playing good, interesting, probing football. Tully had a shot just before half time which ran along the top of the crossbar.
Collins continued in powerhouse fashion after the break and could have won a penalty. McPhail scored with a beautiful header on 64 minutes from a free kick. Despite early promise East Fife failed to continue with their challenge and the game petered out as a contest.
In the other game in the group Rangers beat Aberdeen 6-2 at Pittodrie.
