The game was played in the rain. Celtic lost the toss and kicked off into the rain and wind. Aberdeen scored first on seven minutes through Leggat. With the sun shining again Collins replied for Celtic on 15 minutes. despite further chances for both sides the half finished evens at 1-1. Collins, Fernie and Tully all had shots at the start of the second half. Davidson, however, put Aberdeen into the lead. Back came Celtic and fourteen minutes from the end Tully headed the equaliser. Fernie got the winner, the best goal of the five, five minutes from time.
In the other group game Rangers beat East Fife at Methil 4-1.
