Trivia
- With Fernie and Collins away on international duty, Tully, back from injury came back in at inside left, Walsh was moved to the left wing and Eric Smith came in at inside right. McPhail was also fit having had two stitches put into an eyebrow cut picked up at Falkirk.
- As stated above both Collins and Fernie played in the international against Wales in Cardiff drawing 2-2 with Fernie getting Scotland's first.
- Raith Rovers came into the game having won all their away games so far this season.
- Off the field the SFA Referees Committee rejected calls from the players that they should be allowed representation by the players union at disciplinary meetings.
Review
Both sides were remiss in their finishing. Tully was welcomed back into the team and proceeded to give an exhibition in close control and decent play. Beattie made an early save from the ex-Hearts winger Urquhart. Craig was having equally as good a game as Tully with mazy runs and good crosses into the box. Celtic went ahead on twenty five minutes when a Peacock free kick found its target with McPhail's head and Drummond had to dig the ball out of the back of the net. Tully was causing panic in the Raith defense and he supplied good crosses for Walsh and the defenders being forced to concede corners and make hurried clearances. At the other end Williamson missed from close in but redeemed himself with an equaliser on 40 minutes from a Copland pass. Both sides had chances to go ahead in the second half and the game was in the end a decent example of passing football and quick attacks.
