Review1956-10-31: Celtic 3-0 Partick Thistle, League Cup - Pictures - The Celtic Wiki

Celtic allowed free movement of both wingers to switch and move and this nearly paid early dividends as Mochan and Tully interchanged passes before the Smiler loosed a cannon which was well saved by Ledgerwood. Further Celtic attacks piled into the Thistle goal but their defense stood firm. After 15 minutes the game took on a pattern of both sides squandering decent chances though Ledgerwood was by far the busier goalkeeper having to make decent saves from all the Celtic forwards. The score was still goal less at half time and there was a sense that the play needed to settle down to see the better football.

Four minutes into the second half and Celtic were ahead. McPhail intercepted a short pass back and hooked the ball over Ledgerwood for the first. Three minutes later they were two up. Tully deceived the Thistle defense and raced on sending a perfect pass through to Mochan who beat Gibb and squared the ball to an unmarked McPhail to shoot home. Twelve minutes later a pass from Evans set Collins free and he beat Ledgerwood with a low sharp shot.

Celtic were the faster and stronger side and deserved to win.
