Trivia
- First ever match played under floodlights at Boghead Park Dumbarton.
- The new lights were mounted on twelve 30 feet standards either side of the pitch
- They cost £5,000 and were thought to be the best in the West of Scotland.
- Jimmy McGrory later commented "the lights are very good for the size of ground but I think they would have better effect if they were a little higher."
- Celtic apprentice signing Duncan MacKay was on loan to Dumbarton at this time and, as a right half at Celtic, this may have been the 'McKay' at right back.
Review
John McPhail scored Celtic's first goal on 12 minutes from a long clearance by Dick Beattie in the Celtic goal.
Dumbarton equalised when Bertie Auld laid on a pass for Hugh Gallagher to score just 3 minutes after the Celts took the lead.
Four minutes later Celtic were three in front with goals from Neily Mochan (twice) and McPhail getting his second.
Just before half-time Dumbarton scored their second, Auld and Gallagher combined again, for the latter to add his and Dumbarton's second goal. Near the end of the match a fifth goal for Celtic was scored by Charlie Tully.
