Review
A fast game with both sides committed to playing open passing football. Hibernian put heavy pressure on the Celtic goal from the star. Beattie had to be on his toes all the time and was called on to make some big saves before on five minutes Evans was beaten and Ormond clean through lobbed the ball ovger the advancing Beattie. The goal shook Celtic. Further tragedy on twelve minutes when Meechan was forced into an error and in attempting to pass back to Beattie he succeeded in putting the ball in the corner of the net. 2-0 down and hardly firing up front. On eighteen minutes came a ray of hope when Bobby Collins was unchallenged and headed a Tully corner home. Now there was everything to play for. It was not all Hibs, but the Celtic goal was taking a pounding. The score was unchanged at half time though both sides had had chances.
The second half continued with Hibs throwing everything at the Celtic goal and Beattie playing a blinder. McPhail was booked for a heavy charge on the goalkeeper. It was not till two minutes from time that Hibs got the safety of the third goal and almost immediately after Fernie missed a sitter.
