Trivia
- An unchanged side for Celtic from the team that had won 6-1 in the first leg at Celtic Park. For Thirds ex-Kilmarnock Catterson came in at centre forward and Callaghan at inside left for Cunningham.
- A 9-1 aggregate score gave a true measure of just how far ahead of Third Lanark Celtic were.
Review
Thirds came out determined to save face and made a good fist of the first half with Beattie making several important saves. For Celtic Tully again turned on a masterclass performance hitting the bar with a powerhouse shot on 28 minutes. Two minutes later Celtic were ahead with Bobby Collins scoring direct from a free kick with a tremendous shot. Despite having the wind in their favour in the second half Thirds made less impression and on 56 minutes Celtic went further ahead when a Tully free kick was touched on by Fernie to McPhail who headed neatly home. Sammy Wilson smashed home a third goal before the end.
