Trivia

  • This was an all-ticket game with the attendance set at a maximum of 75,000. A cold day with the ground quite icy and slippery underfoot. This caused some grief and 'deterioration' in the quality of play.
  • And so onto the Ne'erday game against Rangers. Celtic were strapped. To the list of Fernie, McPhail and Tully as first team regulars missing, was now added Bobby Collins who finally succumbed to the ankle ligament trouble that had been bothering him for some time. The backs and half backs stayed the same as the Hearts game. For Collins in came John Colrain for his first team debut. Jim Conway dropped out and in came Matt McVittie at outside right.

Review

A remarkable save by Ritchie in the second half kept Rangers in the game. McVittie's shot through a ruck of players looked to have beaten the Rangers goalkeeper but he made a spectacular save to keep Rangers ahead. The game was played in slippery conditions which the huns appeared to adapt to quicker. Rangers young forward line played well. One of the features noted in the match report was the huge throw in of Vince Ryan.
