Trivia

  • McVittie was out having returned to his Army unit – he had another two months to do of his National Service; and Vince Ryan moved from centre forward to right wing. Alec Byrne came in for a rare start at centre forward. Bobby Collins was still out with an ankle injury.
  • Roy Paton was provisionally signed from Maryhill Thistle.

Review

A greasy, slippery pitch with both teams fiding it difficult to keep their footing. Slater, on leave from the Army did very well for Falkirk in goal. Falkirk took the lead after an attack saw them hity the post with Fallon turning the rebouind out for a corner, with Beattie beaten to the corner by McCole. Falkirk were getting the better of the play with Celtic gradually getting into the game only to be confounded by Slater in goal. Falkirk went in 1-0 up at half time.
Thye second half started with an all-out assault on the Falkirk goal. Alec Byrne levelled it with a scorcher of a shot. Fifteen minutes from time McCole was there again to head Falkirk in front but Celtic pulled one back again immediately when Colrain beat Slaater with a header.
By all accounts an excellent gamer with both teams going all out to entertain and get the win.
