Trivia
- Heavy snow and frost hit Scotland during the week and many games were called off this weekend – not so much through frozen or snow covered pitched but through flooding and water-logging when the ice was followed by a rapid thaw and heavy rain.
- Willie Fernie was fit and came back in at right half with Eric Smith moving forward to inside right. Neil Mochan was fit again after being rested the previous week and Bertie Auld dropped out along with Vince Ryan.
- The pitch was slippery and waterlogged.
Review
Celtic continued to defend their unbeaten away record with a further win at Starks Park. Two goals in thirteen minutes gave Celtic the edge. In between Wilson had another ruled out for offside. Fernie, Evans and Peacock controlled the game throughout. Wilson, Mochan and Collins all had chances to put the Celts further ahead before the interval.
At the end of January Celtic were fifth in the league. Hearts were still leading at a trot having played more games but also having an impressive scoring and defending record.
