- Willie Malley died at a Glasgow nursing home in the early hours of 2nd April 1958. He was 90 and had been ill for some time but still to within the last monthg contributed the occasional football column of reminiscences to the papers. The flags at Celtic Park were flown at half mast and both teams at Aberdeen wore black arm bands.
- Billy McPhail was out having been injured in training after a collision with John Bonnar which left the goalkeeper with a huge black eye. Eric Smith was again fit and came in at right half with Willie Fernie going forward to outside left and Alec Byrne moving into the centre.
- This was the weekend of the Scottish Cup semi finals. The game between Clyde and Motherwell was played at Celtic Park with Clyde holding out for a 3-2 win. The other semi between Hibs and rangers was played at Hampden and ended 2-2.
