Trivia
- Following the Clyde game, Neil Mochan was given a 50-50 chance of making this game after picking up a groin injury. On the day of the game he turned up for a fitness test and was so immobile pre-test that there was no point in trying to start. Jim Kennedy came in for him.
Review
Celtic should have won this game by a handful and gave Airdrie all the opportunities to get back into the game. Particularly at fault was Dick Beattie in goal. He allowed Rankin's shot to drop into the goal without going for the ball. He then allowed a cross from Ormond to bounce off his chest to the waiting Storrie who dispatched the ball. He was also at fault for the third goal. Tully, Collins and Peacock also had off nights. The fight came from Evans, Auld and the new bhoys. The full backs in particular played well and were without fault. The Airdrie goalkeeper however was the MotM with a dazzling performance of saves which kept his team alive and in it.
Despite the draw Celtic still topped the group courtesy of Clyde beating St Mirren away 2-1.
